A special kind of memorial has been created in the old transformer station at Heiderott in Hamminkeln. Photos and artifacts of the Allied airborne operations towards the end of the Second World War are shown on two levels in the tower. The major event “Operation Varsity” took place on March 24, 1945 in the immediate vicinity of the tower.
