Open House at the Liberation Tower in Hamminkeln
When: September 26, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Liberation Tower is a small private museum commemorating one of the largest airborne operations of the Second World War. On March 24, 1945, as part of Operation Varsity, hundreds of Allied gliders landed around this distinctive tower. US airborne troops and German defenders engaged in fierce fighting in the surrounding area.
Today, the tower houses an exhibition that recalls the dramatic events of those days. Visitors experience history at the actual site—in a way that is both impressive and tangible.
For the “Open Museum Day” on September 27, Olaf Prinz (the tower’s operator) and Alexander Berkel (historian and author of Krieg vor der eigenen Haustür) will be on hand to conduct tours and discuss the history.
